Breaking: Justice Satish Chandra Sharma appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court

The notification came to be issued after the current Chief Justice, Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, was elevated to the Supreme Court on August 25.

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, the senior-most judge of the Karnataka High Court, has been appointed as its Acting Chief Justice.

The notification issued in this regard reads,

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, senior-most Judge of Karnataka High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court consequent upon his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of India."

The notification came to be issued after the current Chief Justice, Abhay Shreeniwas Oka, was elevated to the Supreme Court on August 25.

Apart from CJ Oka, Justice BV Nagarathna of the High Court has also been elevated to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium, in its August 17 resolution, had recommended the names of Justices AS Oka, Vikram Nath, JK Maheshwari, Hima Kohli, BV Nagarathna, CT Ravikumar, MM Sundresh, Bela Trivedi, and Senior Advocate PS Narasimha to be considered for elevation.
