Kolkata law student gang-raped, 3 accused including a lawyer in police custody

All three accused were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, at Alipore today and sent to police custody for 4 days.

A Kolkata court on Friday remanded three persons to police custody in connection with the gang rape of a law student in South Calcutta Law College premises.

Earlier today, the police arrested three individuals including one former student (now lawyer) and two staff members of the college in connection with the case.

All three accused were presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Alipore today and were remanded to four days of police custody.

According to a statement issued by the Kolkata police, a case was registered based on a written complaint filed by the alleged victim against three individuals J, M, and P (original names not provided by police).

The complainant alleged that on June 25 between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM, one of the accused sexually assaulted her within the premises, amounting to penetrative rape.

Two of the accused, J and M, were arrested on June 26 near Talbagan Crossing, Kolkata and their mobile phones were seized. The third accused P was arrested from his residence on June 27 and his mobile phone was also seized.
