A Delhi court today remanded Udai Bhanu Chib, National President of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), to four days' custody with the Delhi Police in connection with the recent protest held by the Congress party workers at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Chib was taken into custody for questioning yesterday and arrested this morning. He was then produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Ravi, who remanded him to police custody of four days.
Delhi Police had earlier prayed for custody of seven days.
Seeking Chib's custody for interrogation, a public prosecutor argued that Chib was the brain behind the Congress party's protest.
"Right from the beginning, he has been involved and monitoring all the things. He has been monitoring, he has supported and has not given the passwords for his devices. It’s a case of conspiracy," the prosecution counsel said.
However, counsel appearing for Chib said that the purpose for seeking his custody was frivolous and trivial.
“If they want to ask questions, that can be done without police custody,” the counsel added.
It was further submitted that he is the National President of the IYC and was not present at the spot. It was also argued such protests take place at almost every international event.
Members of the IYC staged a shirtless protest inside the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam on February 20.
Several activists entered the venue, some removing their shirts to reveal T-shirts with slogans like “PM is compromised” and criticisms of the India-US trade deal, before chanting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government policies.
Police have so far made eight arrests in connection with the case and accused them of breaching security and raising "anti-national" slogans at the venue.
While denying bail to four accused last week, JMFC Ravi had observed that the protests at the AI Impact summit transcended the ambit of legitimate dissent and imperilled India's diplomatic image before foreign stakeholders.
Senior Advocate Sanjoy Ghose appeared for Chib.
