The suo motu case initiated by the Allahabad High Court relating to management of COVID-19 crisis in Uttar Pradesh will now be heard by a Bench of Acting Chief Justice, Sanjay Yadav and Justice Prakash Padia after a change in High Court roster.

Previously, a Bench of Justices Siddhart Varma and Ajit Kumar was hearing the matter.

Initially the matter was taken up by Justice Govind Mathur, former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, while taking note of the condition of quarantine centers across the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Acting Chief Justice, Sanjay Yadav who would now be heading the Bench, will retire on June 25. This would mean that the matter will go before another Bench after his retirement.

The High Court has been critical of Uttar Pradesh (UP) government's handling of COVID management.

On more than one occasion, the High Court had pulled up the State government for its shortcomings in handling various aspects relating to Covid and healthcare.

Two of High Court's orders in the matter were also challenged before the Supreme Court which had stayed them including an order calling for lockdown in UP.
