Senior advocate Dr Milind Sathe will be the new Advocate General for the State of Maharashtra, effective tomorrow.

The decision to finalise Sathe's name was taken by the Maharashtra government in its cabinet meeting held in Nagpur. Sathe will now officially represent the State's position in all court proceedings.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed that the Cabinet has accepted Saraf's resignation today and commended his work during his tenure of over 3 years.

"At the same time, the State Cabinet approved the appointment of Milind Sathe as the new Advocate General of the state", Fadnavis' tweet stated.

The move comes after the present advocate general Dr Birendra Saraf resigned in September 2025 after a little over three years in the role, citing personal reasons.

However, the government had requested Saraf to remain as AG until further arrangements are made.

Sathe joined the Bar in 1982 and after over 23 years, he was designated as a senior advocate by the Bombay High Court in 2005.

He appeared in several public interest litigation petitions, legal aid matters and as amicus curie.

He was also the senior counsel for State of Maharashtra, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and several other Corporations and Public Sector Units.

He was also president of the Bombay Bar Association for seven years between 2014 to 2021.
