Sangeetha Vijay, wife of actor and politician Vijay, has approached a Chengalpattu court seeking divorce, alleging that the actor is involved in extra-marital relationship with an actress [Sankgeetha Vijay v. Joseph Vijay Chandrashekar].
The petition was filed on December 3, 2025, before the District Court at Chengalpattu under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, seeking divorce and maintenance alimony.
Though the petition was filed nearly three months back, public and media came to know of it only on February 27.
The plea states that the marriage was first registered in the United Kingdom on July 10, 1998 and later solemnised in Chennai on August 25, 1999, in accordance with Hindu rites. It claims that the marriage has irretrievably broken down and now survives only on paper.
Between September 2021 and February 2022, attempts were made through legal correspondence to resolve the issue amicably. Further notices and correspondence were exchanged between August 2024 and February 2025 in an effort to reach a settlement, the petition says.
Apart from dissolution of marriage, Sangeetha has sought:
the right to reside in the matrimonial home until final disposal of the case or provision of alternate accommodation;
permanent alimony commensurate with Vijay’s income and social standing; and
costs of the proceedings.
She has also requested that the court to conduct the proceedings in camera and restrain media and social media platforms from publishing material relating to the case to protect the dignity and privacy of the parties and their children.
The matter is expected to be heard in April 2026.
