Congress leader Pawan Khera has filed a defamation case against Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for a statement on live television that the Indian National Congress (INC) sided with the "enemy of the nation" during Operation Sindoor [Pawan Khera v Arnab Goswami & Ors].

Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav heard the matter briefly today.

According to Khera, Goswami made an allegedly defamatory statement during a broadcast on Republic TV while India was fighting Pakistan.

“As of now the party is with enemy of the nation, if you are a congress voter, are you also an enemy of the nation,” Goswami allegedly said.

The Court noted that Khera has filed the suit in his personal capacity but the alleged statement was against the political party.

Therefore, the Court asked him to amend his plaint.

Khera's counsel said that he will amend the plea and file an amended memo of parties as well.

Meanwhile, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani appeared for Goswami and said that they have not been served with a copy of the suit.

Justice Kaurav replied that the Court will hear him if summons is issued on the suit.

"We have not issued summons to you. We will hear you after summons are issued to you," the Court said.

The Court added that the next date of hearing will be given after Khera filed an amended plea.
