Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice leads symbolic morning walk at Sukhna Lake to promote mediation

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu on Friday morning led a symbolic walk around Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh as part of an initiative to promote mediation.

The walk was organized as a prelude to the Annual Litigation Conference, 2025, being held in the city this evening.

Supreme Court judge Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice Nagu, Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra and King's Counsel and Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales Barbara Mills are scheduled to address the conference.

The morning's symbolic walk, also attended by other High Court judges, was organized to encourage mediation in the resolution of disputes.

"By beginning the day with a gesture of unity, the profession affirms that the ultimate purpose of law is not prolonged contest but the restoration of harmony," the organizers of the event said in a press release.

The conference to be held this evening in Chandigarh is being jointly organised by the Society of Indian Lawyers (SIL) and the Bar Council of England and Wales on the theme of 'Comity of Courts and International Legal Cooperation in Practice.'
