The Jharkhand government on Sunday appointed Advocate Rohitashya Roy as the new Advocate General (AG) of the State.
Roy was appointed as the State's top law officer after Senior Advocate Rajiv Ranjan, who had been appointed as the AG in 2020, resigned from the post.
In a notification issued by the State law department, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar accepted Ranjan's resignation and appointed Roy to the post till further orders.
Meanwhile, news reports said that Bihar Advocate General Prashant Kumar Shahi also resigned on Sunday.
He had been appointed to the post in 2023 when the State government was led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Following the recent swearing-in of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Samrat Chaudhary as Chief Minister, Shahi stepped down to allow the new government to appoint its own AG.
