Senior Advocate Rajani Iyer passes away

Senior Advocate Rajani Iyer, one of the five designated female senior advocates at the Bombay High Court, passed away on Thursday.

She was not keeping well for sometime.

Iyer was designated Senior Advocate by the Bombay High Court in 2006, after nearly three decades in the legal profession.

Apart from Iyer, only four other female lawyers - Indira Jaising, Phiroza Anklesaria, Gayatri Singh and Anarkali Keni - have been conferred Senior gown by the Bombay High Court.

An Economics graduate and post graduate from Mumbai University, Iyer took interest in law post the Emergency period of 1975-76.

After completing LLB from Government Law College, Iyer joined law firm Mulla & Mulla for a brief period before joining the chambers of Senior Advocate Ashok Desai.

Iyer worked on several high profile case starting from the landmark case of AR Antulay v. RS Nayak.
