Sikkim High Court designates five lawyers as Senior Advocates

A notice was issued following a Full Court meeting held on December 11.

The High Court of Sikkim has designated five advocates as Senior Advocates with effect from December 11, 2025.

The decision to confer the designation of Senior Advocate was taken by the Full Court, which met on December 11, 2025, in the Chambers of Sikkim High Court Chief Justice Sonam Palden Bhutia.

A total of 12 advocates had applied for the designation. After consideration by the Full Court, five were chosen for the Senior Advocate status.

As per the notification, the following lawyers have been designated as Senior Advocates:

  • Aarohi Bhalla

  • Sudesh Joshi

  • Tashi Rapten Barfungpa

  • Zangpo Sherpa

  • Kumar Sharma

The designations has been made by the High Court using its authority under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961, and Rule 4 of the High Court of Sikkim (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2019. These legal provisions empower the High Court to formally grant the status of Senior Advocate to eligible advocates through an official notification.
