The Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur will be hosting a national conference on the “Evolution of Arbitration in India: Today’s Scenario, Emerging Challenges & Proactive Reforms” on March 14, 2026, at 10.30 AM.

The event will bring together judges and leading practitioners to discuss the future of arbitration and dispute resolution in India.

As India’s economy continues to expand and modernise, efficient dispute resolution mechanisms have become central to sustaining commercial growth and investor confidence.

Against this backdrop, the conference aims to examine the current state of arbitration law in India, the institutional and procedural challenges faced by practitioners, and the reforms necessary to strengthen the country’s arbitration ecosystem.

Speakers include:

  • Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Judge, Supreme Court of India

  • Justice Vivek Rusia, Administrative Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court

  • Justice Vinay Saraf, Judge, Madhya Pradesh High Court

  • Justice Tejas Karia, Judge, Delhi High Court

  • Advocate Siddharth R Gupta, Counsel, Supreme Court of India

The conference will feature critical discussions on recent judicial developments shaping India’s arbitration jurisprudence. These include:

  • Gayatri Balasamy v. ISG Novasoft Technologies, where the Supreme Court recognised a limited power to modify arbitral awards.

  • Hindustan Construction Company v. Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam, clarified that pre-arbitral court scrutiny is confined to verifying the prima facie existence of an arbitration agreement.

The conference will also examine the practical realities of arbitration in India, including enforcement hurdles, institutional reforms, and the need to strengthen the broader Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) ecosystem.
