Bar council joins protest against all-India exam

Bar & Bench

The Bar Council of India is at the receiving end of flak yet again, with Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa opposing the All India Bar Examination. In a Special Meeting the decision was taken to submit an affidavit with the objections filed in by the other Bar Councils in the Supreme Court, where the  matter is coming up for hearing on July 30.

The Indian Express spoke to council member Harshad Nimbalkar who said, “It has been decided that the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa will submit an affidavit in the Supreme Court, to be considered along with the objection petitions filed by the other bar councils. The Supreme Court is expected to decide on these petitions on July 30.”

Pune Bar Association President Milind Pawar said, “The AIBE covers the same subjects that are included in the three-year and five-year LLB programmes at law schools in India. What is the point of making students appear for this exam?”
