According to this report in the Times of India, the Maharashtra State Cabinet has cleared the proposal to establish a National Law University at Nagpur. The institute, to be named the Maharashtra National Law University, shall be accepting admissions through the Common Law Admission Test. The institute is expected to receive financial support to the tune of Rs. 125 crore from the State government.
The report also mentions the possibility of two other NLUs being constituted within the state, to be located at Aurangabad and Mumbai. The final decision on all three is expected in the oncoming winter session. If cleared, Maharashtra will be following in the footsteps of Tamil Nadu. The National Law School, Trichy recently admitted a 100 students into its five year LLB BA (Hons) course.
