Meet our Campus Ambassadors: Nishtha Ojha, NLU Jodhpur

Since late last year, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students have been providing us with information on campus events and activities, and also sharing legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Nishtha Ojha, a fourth-year student at the National Law University Jodhpur.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law? Did you have any other interests before deciding to pursue law school?

Law was never the first choice of career for me. A lot of thought was put into while deciding my field of career, before I finally decided to appear for CLAT. It was a decision reached by using the elimination method, as I had to rule out the prospect of pursuing Hons. in Economics, however, that did not play out well, consequently law happened.

To my surprise I fell in love with the field of law the from the preparation days for CLAT itself, subsequently, NLUJ ushered the love and channelised it into my passion.

Why did you choose to become a Bar & Bench Campus Ambassador?

The primary reason behind becoming the Bar & Bench Ambassador was to keep in touch with what’s happening around me in the field of law. Becoming an ambassador especially provides an opportunity to keep up with the happenings around other law schools as well, which in a way provides a chance to network.

Additionally, having interned with a variety of law firms, I had realised the importance of legal journalism, which is very well served by Bar & Bench. One of the secondary reasons would be the fact that our university was in talks to get the premium subscription when the call for applications came out.

What are your plans after graduation?

Being in my penultimate year and given the streak of the internships I have in the past with various Tier 1 and Tier 2 law firms, my primary goal is to get placed with a law firm where I can get hold of the commercial laws and enhance my interest in the same.

This would act as a foundation to my future plans down the line, that is to specialise in a specific field of commercial law as it is too wide a field to be mastered as a whole, hence, pursuing LLM is definitely on the cards.

Rest assured, I would like to go with the flow and make use of every opportunity that lies ahead in this career.
