Radio show helps put visually impaired GLC student through law school

In a heartwarming show of support, the people of Mumbai made an effort to help put a third year student of the city’s Government Law College (GLC) through law school.

In a series of tweets, Radio City host Suchitra Tyagi (@Su4ita) revealed the heart rending story of Nikita Shukla, who is visually impaired.

On account of her disability, Nikita’s parents sought to get her married after she completed school. However, Nikita refused, as she wanted to fulfill her dream of studying law. As a result, she was forced to leave the house. With a little help from her friends, she moved into a hostel and joined GLC.

Finding it difficult to make ends meet, Nikita could not afford more than one meal a day. She had been living on just dinner for the last three years.

Her life would take a turn when she arrived at the Radio City office in Mumbai to claim a prize that she won. Which is when she met RJ Suchitra Tyagi and agree to tell her story on air.

Moved by her story, listeners made a beeline to help Nikita. Radio City collated the cheques received from complete strangers, and found that the money would cover Nikita’s tuition, hostel and canteen fee.

And apparently, people are not done with offering to help Nikita.
