All Division Benches, Single Benches of Delhi High Court to now take up urgent matters through video conferencing; New Roster notified

With effect from May 22, all Division and Single Judge Benches of the Delhi High Court shall take up urgent matters of all kinds, through video conferencing.

Judges of the Delhi High Court will participate in court proceedings on all the working days as per the new Roster of Judges, from their respective residences.

During the lockdown period thus far, urgent matters were being taken up by two Division Benches and ten Single Benches.

The Roster Benches will also take up matters which are at the stage of final arguments and in which consent has been received from both sides for disposal of the case on the basis of written submissions alone.

The existing procedure of mentioning of urgent matters will continue to be in force till further orders.

Non-urgent matters shall be taken up by the Roster Benches on resumption of regular hearings, and as per the order of the Chief Justice of the High Court.

As per sources in the Registry, during the period of lockdown, the High Court and its subordinate court have taken up 20,726 urgent matters.
