SUMMARY OF CASES

1. Pratibha Singh & Anr v Joint Director, Enforcement Directorate & Anr.

Petition filed by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife Pratibha, seeking a stay on the March 23 provisional attachment order (PAO) of the ED and also the quashing and setting aside of the order on the ground that the Enforcement Directorate has “exceeded its jurisdiction”.

The Bench is expected to pronounce its orders today.

2. Sushil Kumar v Union of India

[Item 72, Court 10- W.P.(C) 4514/2016]

Bench- Manmohan J.

Petition filed by professional wrestler Sushil Kumar seeking conduct of trials for selection to the 74-kg men’s freestyle event at the Rio Olympics. Olympic medallist Kumar and fellow wrestler Narsingh Yadav are engaged in a selection battle for a spot in the wrestling squad going to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The spot is in the 74-kg freestyle wrestling category.

Previously, the Bench had refused to interfere in the dispute and directed for all the parties to resolve the case. Justice Manmohan had also issued notice to the Centre, Wrestling Federation of India, Indian Olympic Association and Narsingh Yadav and sought their responses over the issue.

Today in Court- This case will continue to be heard on June 1. The Bench expressed its displeasure over the issue today when it observed that both the athletes should not be used as ‘pawns’ in the politics ensuing in Wrestling Federation of India.

3. Pfizer Ltd & Anr Vs Union of India & Anr and Laborate Pharmaceuticals India Ltd Vs Drugs Controller General of India & Anr. [Batch matters]
