The Central government has cleared appointment of Gujarat High Court judge Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court..The appointment was announced on X by Union Minister of State for Law Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday night. .Justice Kogje was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium after its meeting held on August 31. .Justice Kogje is presently serving as a judge of the Gujarat High Court..Justice Kogje completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry in 1990 and earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1993.He joined the Bar in 1993. Throughout his career as counsel, he held several significant roles, including Additional Public Prosecutor from 2002 to 2007, Standing Counsel for the Central Excise and Customs Department, and Special Public Prosecutor for the Special Investigation Team (SIT), where he notably handled a large volume of important cases arising from the 2002 Godhra riots..He was elevated as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in April 2016.He was subsequently appointed as a permanent judge of the Gujarat High Court in March 2018..The Madhya Pradesh High Court is presently functioning with 38 judges while its sanctioned strength is 53.
