Khaled Al-Marri & Partners has announced Justice Talwant Singh, Former Judge, High Court of Delhi as Honorary Chair to the firm’s Advisory Board alongside the firm’s Founder and Co-Founders.
Pursuant to his demitting the office of Judge, High Court of Delhi, Justice Singh has been associated with the firm since September 2024 as a Legal Director.
This might be the first time in the history of the two great nations that a retired High Court Judge has been formally ushered into an Emirati Law Firm’s leadership.
Since then, Justice Singh has been guiding the firm and its clients pertaining to judicial matters concerning the two jurisdictions, i.e. India and the United Arab Emirates. Encouraged by this unique association, the firm’s Founder and Co-Founders (Kushagra Ashok Arora, Khaled Khalfan Al-Marri and Abdul Sattar Pirzada) requested Justice Singh to further strengthen the firm’s existing professional imprint across the two jurisdictions.
Justice Singh’s association with the firm offers a rare opportunity to the firm’s international clients in having an in-depth understanding of the judicial and regulatory landscape of the incredible bilateral opportunities India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) offer to one another.
This announcement coincides with the expanding commercial and legal engagement between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India. Bilateral trade, investment flows, and cross-border commercial activity have continued to grow, supported by closer economic and strategic ties between the two countries. In parallel, judicial and legal cooperation frameworks must evolve to enable greater interaction in complex areas such as enforcement, regulatory coordination, and cross-border dispute resolution.
Justice Singh is regularly nominated by various High Courts and corporations to serve as an arbitrator in high-stakes commercial disputes. Most recently, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs of India appointed Justice Singh as Chairperson of the Appellate Authority of the Professional Institutes, which adjudicates upon appeals relating to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), further underscoring his forensic insight and commitment towards developing India’s judicial and quasi-judicial jurisprudence.
Justice Singh said,
“The legal and commercial engagement between India and the UAE has expanded significantly in recent years, bringing with it a new layer of regulatory, enforcement, and dispute-related complexity. Having been associated with Khaled Al-Marri & Partners and having observed Kushagra’s vision for building a globally positioned firm, I have seen first-hand the firm’s approach to cross-border legal work. I look forward to continuing my association in an advisory capacity and supporting the firm in matters pertaining to India with a special focus on judicial cooperation treaty and legal interest of the citizens and businesses of the two countries and our shared resolve to serve Indian diaspora overseas.”
Welcoming Justice Singh to the Advisory Board, Khaled Khalfan Al-Marri (Managing Partner, Co-Founder and Litigation Practice Head), said,
“Justice Talwant Singh’s association with the firm over the past year and a half has already added significant value. Justice Singh’s decision to accept to chair our Advisory Board strengthens our platform as we continue to advise clients navigating increasingly sophisticated legal and regulatory issues connected to India. Justice Singh’s institutional insight and standing will be an important asset for our clients and for the firm’s long-term development.”
Speaking on the development, Kushagra Ashok Arora, Founder of the firm, said,
“It was only a matter of time that our clients appreciated the intrinsic value of having the benefit of Justice Singh’s guidance. Given Justice Singh’s illustrious body of judicial work and wisdom which have already proved to be a rare arsenal in our clients’ armoury; I am honoured to be entrusted and guided by Justice Singh. We are certain of being able to further enrich our performance and commitment to our shared cause, especially when it comes to serving the Indian diaspora, and disputes and/or transactions necessitating a deep understanding of Indian jurisprudence and public policy.”
