Delhi High Court denies bail to man accused of raping women he met through fake matrimonial profiles

The Delhi High Court recently rejected the bail plea of a man accused of creating multiple fake profiles on matrimonial websites and inducing women into sexual relations on false promise of marriage [Gaurav Jaiswal Vs The State].

The Court observed that the accused had created 9 fake profiles on the matrimonial website, carrying varying personal and professional details. It noted that one fake profile was made in the name of a girl.

In the verdict delivered on September 22, Justice Girish Kathpalia observed that prima facie, the Court agrees with the prosecution that the man is a “predator of innocent girls”.

“Those profiles are of different ranges of age, different ranges of qualification and different ranges of occupation/income, which prima facie lends credence to the argument of learned ASC that the accused/applicant is a predator of innocent girls,” the Court stated.

The complainant had met the accused on a matrimonial website in 2024. The accused forged sexual relations with her on false promise of marriage. Thereafter, he continued demanding sex by threatening to leak her intimate pictures. She stated that the accused also insisted that she consents to a threesome sexual relation.

The woman eventually lodged a police complaint in 2025.

The accused denied the allegations. His counsel submitted in Court that the complainant was a “grown-up lady” and could not have been induced into sex by false matrimonial promise.

The woman managed to record the accused admitting that he has previously cheated many girls and had clicked obscene pictures. However, the voice recording was not part of the police chargesheet. The Court was informed that the recording is under forensic analysis.

The prosecution opposed the bail plea, stating that the accused is a “dangerous predator” who has been cheating girls through fake profiles.

The standing counsel for the State submitted that there are many other victims who are reluctant to complain against the accused. The counsel stated that there shall be more complainants in this case after the forensic report comes out.

The Court noted that the accused had admitted to having clicked objectionable pictures of the complainant and cheated several girls in a similar manner.

Thereby, it rejected his bail plea.

“I do not find it a fit case to grant bail. The bail application is dismissed.”

Advocates Rakhi Dubey and Bipin Dubey appeared for the accused.
