In a move that has surprised many, the collegium under Chief Justice TS Thakur has decided on the transfer of four judges from the Delhi High Court. Suresh Kait, Justice Valmiki Mehta, VP Vaish and Rajiv Shakhder JJ. shall soon be moving to the High courts of Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Madras..As reported by TOI, the shuffling will not see them joining as Chief Justices of these high courts. Previously, such a step was taken by former CJI SH Kapadia. .The news comes as a move forward in the process of appointment, which has been stagnant for more than a year now, after the Apex Court had held NJAC to be unconstitutional and further made it mandatory for the finalization of the Memorandum of Procedure before any fresh appointments could be made..Earlier this week, the collegium had also made appointments to the high Courts of Gujarat and Allahabad.
