The proposed GST regime is expected to subsume large number of Central taxes like Central Excise duty, Service tax, Counter Veiling duty and the State taxes and levies like VAT, Entry tax and Entertainment tax.
Speaking to Bar & Bench, Under Secretary, Arvind Kumar said, “This internship program would benefit the students to understand the biggest revolution in the post independent India’s tax regime after indirect tax reform. Some of the students have very high intellect and research capacities. These internships will also benefit the Department immensely”. The Department has allocated a stipend of Rs. 5,000 ($110) per month to encourage students to take up these internships.
