INX Media case transferred to Special MP/MLA Court after Karti Chidambaram becomes MP

With the election of Karti Chidambaram as a Member of Parliament in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the INX Media case has been transferred to the Special MP/MLA Court in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court Complex..The INX Media case will now be heard by Special Judge Arun Bhardwaj..The INX Media case pertains to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance given to INX Media at the time when Karti Chidambaram’s father, P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister..It is the case of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Chidambaram and Karti received illegal gratification from INX Media owners Peter and Indrani Mukherjea for the clearance..The matter was earlier being heard by Special Judge (PC ACT) (CBI) Anurag Sain. .The issue with respect to the CBI Court’s jurisdiction to hear the matter was raised by Judge Sain on May 29 when the case was listed for order of Indrani Mukherjea’s plea to be made an approver in the case..Thereafter, the matter was placed before Special Judge OP Saini who marked the same to the Special MP/MLA Court..After briefly going to the facts of the case, Special Judge Bhardwaj today adjourned hearing in the case till June 7..Karti Chidambaram was granted bail in the case by the High Court last year..Meanwhile, P Chidambaram’s plea seeking anticipatory bail in the case is pending before the Delhi High Court..Karti Chidambaram has won the Lok Sabha Seat from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu..Bar & Bench is available on WhatsApp. For real-time updates on stories, Click here to subscribe to our WhatsApp.
