

Justice Alok Kumar Verma of Uttarakhand High Court has tendered his resignation.
The resignation would be effective from April 30, a notification published on the Law Ministry website said.
"Justice Alok Kumar Verma has tendered his resignation from the office of Judge, Uttarakhand High Court, in pursuance of proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, with effect from 30.04.2026," said the May 27 notification.
Justice Verma was set to retire in August of 2026.
He was born on August 16, 1964 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
He graduated from DAV (PG) Degree College at Varanasi and obtained his LL.B. from Harish Chandra Postgraduate College in 1985.
He subsequently, joined the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Service in 1987 (1982 batch) and was first posted at Jhansi as Munsif (Civil Judge, Junior Division). He served in various districts across Uttar Pradesh before opting for judicial service in Uttarakhand following the creation of the State in November 2000.
In Uttarakhand, he served as District Judge in Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. He also held the position of Principal Secretary, Law-cum-Legal Remembrancer to the Government of Uttarakhand.
He was appointed an additional judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand on May 22, 2019 and took oath on May 27, 2019.
He was confirmed as a permanent judge of the High Court on May 25, 2021.
