Justice Khehar’s fearlessness unparalleled – J. KS Radhakrishnan

Supreme Court judge Justice KS Radhakrishnan yesterday heaped praises on his brother judge Justice JS Khehar for his fearlessness and commitment towards his duty and thanked him for “bearing the brunt” in a high pressure matter which is being heard by both the judges. This happened during the farewell ceremony of three Supreme Court judges – Justices AK Patnaik, KS Radhakrishnan and SS Nijjar – which was held in the Supreme Court lawns yesterday evening..The three judges are retiring during the summer vacation of the Supreme Court and yesterday was their final working day. The farewell function, organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), saw the attendance of Chief Justice of India (CJI) RM Lodha, Solicitor General (SG) Mohan Parasaran and SCBA President PH Parekh..SG Parasaran, in his address, referred to the three judges as the “greatest of the gems” with all three of them having declined post retirement jobs. He also praised Justice Patnaik’s efficient time management and speedy disposal of cases and Justice Radhakrishnan’s contribution to modern jurisprudence evolved by the Supreme Court. Parasaran also praised Justice Radhakrishnan for his fearlessness and firmness behind the mild mannered persona..CJI Lodha in his speech said that the three judges from three different parts of the country worked towards fulfilling the Constitutional mandate..Both Parasaran and CJI Lodha referred to Justice Nijjar as an Englishman, with the judge, who was in a light mood, smiling off the accolades..Subsequently, Justice Patnaik in his farewell speech said that the Supreme Court Bar is the best Bar in the country while also saying that if the lawyers of the Supreme Court had the facts and law against them, they argued with their “sound and fury.”.Justice Radharkrishnan spoke at length about his brother judges with whom he had served during his tenure. He then referred to Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, with whom he heard a particular matter for 81 days, as a judge whose “fearlessness is unparalleled in Supreme Court history.” Justice Radhakrishnan also made a mention about the pressure upon the Bench while dealing with that matter and lauded Justice Khehar for “bearing the brunt”..Justice Nijjar, who did not have a written manuscript, proceeded to deliver a brief and engaging farewell speech as the function drew to a close..Yesterday was Supreme Court’s final working day. The Court will re open on June 30, 2014 after a month and a half long summer vacation.
