Justice Rohinton Nariman enters Supreme Court Collegium after Justice AK Sikri retirement

After the retirement of Justice AK Sikri on Wednesday, the Supreme Court Collegium has a new entrant in Justice Rohinton Nariman.

The current Collegium will now comprise Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice SA Bobde, Justice NV Ramana, Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Rohinton Nariman.

The five-member Collegium responsible for appointments to the higher judiciary will have this composition for the next eight and a half months. It will next change when Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi retires in November this year.

On November 18, Justice SA Bobde will take over as Chief Justice of India. On that date, Justice R Banumathi will become the fifth member of the Collegium.

Justice Banumathi will become the second-ever woman to be part of the Supreme Court Collegium, after Justice Ruma Pal.

At the turn of this year, Justice Arun Mishra entered into the Collegium, after the retirement of Justice Madan Lokur.
