King amp Partridge and Sundaraswamy amp Ramdas declared winners of inaugural edition of Law Firm Football League 2012

Twenty-six teams from thirty law firms battled it out in the first edition of the “Law Firm Football League” held on July 22, 2012 in Bangalore. The 26 teams were divided into 7 pools and the matches were played with 5 players on each side. The duration of each match was 15 minutes with two halves of 7 minutes each and a 60-second break in between. The tournament also had Senior Advocates Uday Holla, K.G. Raghavan and M.S. Krishnan grace the occasion..The matches took place simultaneously at a frenetic pace, with the teams being cheered on by their very vociferous supporters. The organisers had also organised breakfast and lunch for the 500-strong crowd comprising of players, supporters, volunteers and family members..The finals saw King & Partridge, and Sundarswamy & Ramdas face a joint team from Universal Legal and VGB Associates with the former eventually declared as winners. The winning team consisted of T. Suryanarayana, Abhilash, Nitin Prasad, Sandeep Huilgol, Amit Kumar, Harshvardhan, Ravishankar, Umesh, Sneha N..The second-placed team consisted of Vivekananda, Partha Mandal, Siddharth T C, Siddhanth P, Umesh R, Ananrita De, Sandeep S, Varun T, Ramesh T..Justice A. S. Bopanna of the High Court of Karnataka, who was the Chief Guest, stayed on to watch the final match and gave away the prizes at the prize distribution ceremony. Prizes were also awarded to Nitin Prasad from King & Paltridge for being the highest goal scorer, Siddhanth P from Universal Legal for being the best goalkeeper. Siddharth TC from Universal Legal picked up Player of the Tournament while Ananrite De (also from Universal Legal) picked up the prize for Best Woman Player. Hosts Crestlaw Partners won a prize for Best Cheerleading Squad while AZB & Partners picked up the Fairness par Excellence Award..Ravitej Rao, Partner at Crestlaw Partners, told Bar & Bench that previously, only cricket tournaments had been arranged under the aegis of the Society of Indian Law Firms. “Given the interest in football…..we… decided to take the initiative and organise a football tournament for law firms in Bangalore.”.Ravitej said that the response this year has been “excellent” and the tourney was enjoyed by non-playing members, family and friends alike. He said that the mantle of organizing next year’s tournament now rested on the winners of this year’s finals.
