Land will soon be allotted at Bandra for new Bombay High Court complex: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde

The Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde said on Saturday that land for the new Bombay High Court complex will soon be allotted at Bandra in Mumbai.."Our government is planning to bring in transparency in judiciary. We are taking decisions for the betterment of the judiciary. The land at Bandra would be soon allotted for new HC complex. It is a need of the State," he said.The Chief Minister was speaking at an event organised to felicitate Chief Justice of India (CJI) UU Lalit at Rajbhavan, Mumbai. The event saw the attendance of Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Dipankar Datta among other luminaries. .Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also addressed the issue relating to allotment of land for a new High Court building as a long pending concern of Chief Justice Datta, assuring the audience that the same would be resolved soon."Our government has decided to boost the court infrastructure. A long pending concern of our High Court Chief Justice Dipankar Datta of allotting a plot for new complex of our High Court has been almost resolved. All legal issues pertaining to land in Bandra, Mumbai for the new complex of Bombay High Court (have been resolved). Soon a land parcel would be allotted," he said.He also said that present building is very old and not sufficient and there are chances of untoward incidents given that it is an old structure..During his speech, Shinde appreciated several important decisions taken by CJI Lalit during his tenure to bring transparency to court proceedings, such as livestreaming of constitutional courts.He further spoke about the State government's plan to bring more transparency to the judiciary, and said that the State was taking decisions for the betterment of the judicial system..Fadnavis also appreciated the efforts made by CJI Lalit during his short tenure to bring in transparency to the Supreme Court's roster and hear more cases..During the CJI's brief tenure of less than three months, he began the live streaming of Constitution bench cases and also said that the top court would soon develop its own platform to host the live telecast of proceedings..CJI UU Lalit will retire on November 8, 2022. .[Read our live-coverage of the event below]
