Coronavirus: Delhi HC adjourns pending matters listed before it from March 17-20; urgent matters to be mentioned before JR

Filing Counters in the Registry shall remain open and limitation shall continue to run as before.

The Delhi High Court has resolved to restrict its functioning till March 20 and adjourned all pending matters listed before it from March 17-20.

Matters listed for hearing on March 17, March 18, March 19 and March 20 shall now be taken up on April 14, April 15, April 16 and April 17, respectively.

Urgent matters may be mentioned before the Court of notified Joint Registrars (Judicial) from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon and the same will be listed for hearing the following day before Benches notified by the Court.

It is added that the Filing Counters in the Registry shall remain open and limitation shall continue to run as before.

Last week, the High Court has decided to restrict its functioning to urgent matters only.

Since the effeorts to decongest the High court and the subordinate courts did not yield the desired efforts, an emergent meeting of the Delhi High Court Bar Association was held today.

Subsequently, a resolution was passed requesting the High Court to review the steps taken by the High Court to combat further spread of the virus.

Following the Resolution, a meeting of the Administrative and General Supervision Committee was held at 2:30 pm.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Justuce, Justice DN Patel, Justices Hima Kohli, Vipin Sanghi, Siddharth Mridul, Manmohan, Rajiv Sahai ENdlaw and JR Midha. DHCBA President Mohit Mathur and Secratary Abhijat were also in attendance along with Registrar General Manoj Jain.

With regards the courts subordinate to it, the High Court has directed that only bail matters and matters requiring urgent stay/injunction would be taken up till March 30.

Final arguement matters (including time bound matters) be postponed beyond March 30, it is ordered.

No undertrial would be produced before the Trial Courts till March 30 and if such presence is indespensible, the same shall be done via video conferencing.

Instiutitonal training before the Delhi Judicial Academcy has also been postponed till March 30.

The situation will be re-assessed on March 20.
