Delhi High Court refers defamation case between Anjana Om Kashyap and Khan Sir to mediation

The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked journalist Anjana Om Kashyap, popular educator Khan Sir and several others to make efforts to resolve their dispute through mediation. .Justice Tushar Rao Gedela asked the counsel representing the parties to appear before the mediator this evening. "After having probed a little, it appears that the parties may be able to resolve the disputes amicably. The parties are willing to explore the terms of settlement in case a senior mediator is appointed. They are also willing to commence the mediation efforts today itself at 4:30 PM," the Court said. While referring the parties to mediation, the Court also asked Khan Sir and other educators to remove posts disclosing details about Kashyap's children. Kashyap too was asked not to target the educators. "You are academicians. You are teaching youngsters. They [Kashyap] will refrain, you [Khan sir] take down disclosure about the child," the Court said. .Justice Gedela passed the order while hearing a defamation case filed by Kashyap and the TV Today Network against Khan and several others over their allegedly defamatory comments following her criticism of the growing influence of "star teachers"..Apart from Khan sir, teachers like Abhinay Sharma, Babita Tyagi and Arvind Bhadauriya have also been made defendants in the suit. Certain X handles and 4PM News Network have also been sued by Kashyap and TV Today. According to the suit, the controversy began after Kashyap hosted a debate on Aaj Tak on May 29, 2026, during which she commented on the growing influence of online “star teachers” and the commercialisation of education. She contended that the remarks constituted fair journalistic commentary made during a public discussion on a matter of national importance.It is her case that several defendants with large social media followings launched a sustained campaign targeting her and the network between May 30 and June 4. As per the suit, videos, posts and broadcasts published across multiple digital platforms described Kashyap and Aaj Tak using terms such as “bikau patrakar,” “chatukar,” “dalli,” and accused them of engaging in “dalaali” and operating a “fake news ki dukaan.”Further, Khan sir publicly discussed and revealed information about the school attended by Kashyap’s child, the suit pointed out.The disclosure was irrelevant to the public controversy and exposed the family to harassment, unwanted attention and security concerns, Kashyap said in her suit..The suit was filed through advocates Hrishikesh Baruah, Utkarsh Dwivedi and Pragya Agarwal.
