IT Rules, 2021 causing petitioners "to live in constant fear:" Bombay High Court asks Centre to file affidavit on why Rules should not be stayed

The petitioners are living in constant fear, observed the Court while directing the Union to expeditiously file an affidavit reasoning why interim relief should not be granted to the petitioners.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Central government to file a short affidavit by Friday detailing why an interim stay should not be imposed on the operation of the Information Technology (Guidelines for intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules, 2021) till the challenge is decided on merits.
