[BREAKING] Madhya Pradesh High Court decides to allow access to live court proceedings, adds that media reporting should be accurate

The Madhya Pradesh High Court today informed that it has allowed the media access to live court proceedings for reporting purposes, by providing links to view the proceedings on the High Court's website (Nupur Thapliyal and ors v. High Court of Madhya Pradesh and ors)..A Division Bench of Justices Prakash Shrivastava and Virendra Singh announced the decision in response to a plea moved by four legal journalists challenging the validity of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh Video Conferencing and Audio-Visual Electronic Linkage Rules, 2020, which had restricted the media and third parties from accessing court proceedings..When the case was taken up today, the Bench was informed that the High Court has given due consideration to the interim reliefs sought by the petitioner and that "links will be provided" on the website publicly. .The Bench added a word of caution that the reporting of court proceedings should be responsible. ."Whatever you wanted we have given to you. We will allow in everything, except (access to those cases) which are excluded (like in-camera proceedings and others listed in the Swapnil Tripathi case). The reporting should be accurate, public should know the right things", the Court said. .The Court had earlier reserved orders in the matter. However, with the latest developments on the High Court e-committee side, the interim reliefs sought by the petitioner already stood granted, the High Court noted.."We were going to pronounce the order but now we are not because the High Court has allowed everything you wanted," the Court remarked. .The issue was raised in a petition filed through Advocate Manu Maheswari on behalf of journalists, Nupur Thapliyal (Legal Correspondent, Live Law), Sparsh Upadhyay (Special Legal Correspondent, Live Law), Areeb Uddin Ahmed (Legal Correspondent, Bar & Bench), and Rahul Dubey (Legal Correspondent, Dainik Bhaskar)..Arguments for the petitioners were led by Senior Advocate Nidhesh Gupta, who welcomed the High Court's decision during the hearing today.
