Marital Rape criminalisation: Delhi High Court to pronounce verdict [LIVE UPDATES]

The Delhi High Court is set to pronounce its verdict in a batch of petitions demanding the criminalisation of marital rape.

A Division Bench comprising of Justices Rajiv Shakdher and C Hari Shankar is scheduled to deliver the verdict at 2:30 pm.

The petitions have challenged Exception 2 to Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which exempts non-consensual sex between husband and wife from the ambit of rape.

The Court had during the hearing, appointed Senior Advocates Rebecca John and Rajshekhar Rao as amici curiae in the matter.

The Bench reserved its orders in the petitions on February 21, 2022.
