Summer Vacation cancelled for Jammu & Kashmir High Court, District & Subordinate Courts in summer zone of Jammu division

The decision was taken after considering severe hardships faced by the litigants in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh due to the impeded functioning of the Courts on account of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has notified that the summer vacation of the High Court earlier scheduled from June 8, 2020, to June 26, 2020 stands cancelled. (Jammu and Kashmir High Court order dated 06-01-2020)

However, the gazetted holiday on June 18 and the Saturdays falling on June 13 and 27 have been exempted from such cancellation.

Additionally, the routine fifteen days summer vacations in District and Subordinate Courts located in the summer zone of the Jammu division also stand cancelled for this year.

The decision was taken after considering severe hardships faced by the litigants in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh due to the impeded functioning of the Courts on account of the COVID-19 lockdown.

As such, the proposal to cancel summer vacations for the courts this year is stated to have received overwhelming support from all judges, considering that "it would be highly inappropriate and unjustified to proceed with the ensuing summer vacation in the High Court of J&K and Subordinate Courts in Jammu division."
