Chief Justice of India (CJI) UU Lalit on Monday said that the Supreme Court will soon have its own live-streaming platform..A comment to this effect made when a petition regarding live streaming of Supreme Court proceedings in Constitution Bench matters was urgently mentioned. The lawyer mentioning the matter suggested that the Supreme Court should secure copyright of its proceedings if the intention is to stream on YouTube. However, CJI Lalit revealed,"We will have our own platform soon.".On September 22, the Full Court of the Supreme Court had unanimously decided to begin live streaming of Constitution bench cases from September 27.The hearings will initially be telecast live on YouTube, sources told Bar & Bench..Currently, the Supreme Court of India is hearing important constitutional matters including the challenge to the Constitution (One Hundred and Third) Amendment Act, 2019, which provides 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Some of the other Constitution Bench cases which are slated to begin soon are: the Bohra community's right to excommunicate; adequacy of Bhopal Gas tragedy compensation; retrospective application of immunity against arrest; validity of the All India Bar Examination; and extent of Supreme Court's powers to directly hear cases.
