Madras High Court looking to appoint 180 Residential Assistants to perform household chores for judges

The Madras High Court is looking to fill up 180 vacancies for Residential Assistants, a newly created post entailing the performance of household chores for High Court judges and Registrars.

A notification calling for applications from interested candidates was issued last month. As per the notification, the duties of Residential Assistants would include attending to “all household duties including cooking, cleaning and other household duties assigned to them from time to time in a professional and dedicated manner and even in odd hours, if need be.”

The selected candidates may be posted either at Chennai, where the Principal Bench of the Madras High Court is located, or at its Bench in Madurai. The Residential Assistant may also be transferred to either Bench depending on administrative exigencies.

The minimum academic qualification stipulated for job is passing the VIII standard or an equivalent academic grade.  Candidates must have completed the minimum age of 18 years. The pay prescribed for job runs between Rs 15,700  to Rs 50,000.

The candidate is expected to submit two good conduct certificates signed off by responsible persons not related to them. Candidates who hold drivers’ licenses, who have completed one year craft courses in house-keeping/cooking and allied fields from recognised institutes and who are fluent in English and Tamil would be preferred for the post.

Interested candidates are to apply online through the Madras High Court website, following which intimation regarding test dates and other notifications will be sent by SMS. Candidates will be chosen based on a written exam, a practical test and an oral test. The syllabus for the written exam will be part General Knowledge and part proficiency in basic Tamil.

The last date for submitting the online application for the post is on June 12. The Fee for the same is to be remitted by June 14.
