Amid massive traffic jams caused by the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court recently observed that the authorities in Prayagraj must ensure unhindered access of lawyers to the court premises..The traffic restrictions in the city have led to adjournments of various cases at the Allahabad High Court since past few weeks. Taking note of the same, Justice JJ Munir said that the authorities must understand that the High Court's functioning cannot be brought to a standstill. Any hindrance in the movement of the counsel during Court hours impedes the process of dispensation of justice, the Court said in its order of February 6."While this Court understands that this is an unusual situation because of the presence of a large population visiting the Mahakumbh, it is the duty of the Police to ensure that movement of learned counsel to the Court is unhindered and does not affect the functioning of the Court," the Court added. .The Court called for special measures to tackle the situation and directed that its order be communicated to the Prayagraj Police Commissioner through Chief Judicial Magistrate, Allahabad by the Registrar (Compliance). It took note of the situation after lawyers in a case could not reach the Court in time due to traffic jams."This matter was twice posted at 10 am and had to be adjourned on account of request by learned counsel for one party or the other that they could not reach Court in time because of conditions of extreme traffic jam in the city," the Judge said..[Read Order]
