Merger Market Q3 2014 Report: Amarchand tops Indian M&A tables in deal value, deal count; AZB comes in 2nd in deal count

Merger Market has released its report on Global & Regional M&A activities for the third quarter of 2014. Amarchand Mangaldas is the only Indian firm to feature in the Asia-Pacific (ex Japan) table in terms of deal count, coming in at number 19 with 29 deals.

The firm also finds a place in the Japan deal value table, at 15th with a value of $ 4.2 billion and in the Africa and Middle-East deal count table at 20th, with 6 deals. AZB Partners and Amarchand have also featured in the private equity buyout tables by deal count, at 6th position and 7th position respectively.

Indian M&A Tables

Amarchand topped both the deal value and deal count M&A tables for India, with a value of $ 9.9 billion from 29 deals, showing an increase of 1.7% from the previous quarter. AZB is second in the deal count table, with a value of $4.1 billion from 28 deals.

By Value

Luthra & Luthra has surged up to third place with a value of $4.9 billion from 11 deals, followed by S&R Associates at 4th with a value of $ 4.8 billion from 4 deals. AZB and PH Bathiya & Associates take up the 7th and 8th spots with values of $4.1 billion and $3.9 billion respectively.

Some of the international law firms that make up the top ten include Davis Polk and Wardwell, White & Case, Shearman & Sterling, and Sullivan & Cromwell.

The other Indian law firms in the table are Crawford Bayley & Co. at joint 9th with a value of $3.9 billion, Platinum Partners at joint 12th with a value of $3.1 billion, Trilegal at 14th with a value of $1.6 billion and Khaitan & Co. at 15th with a value of $1.3 billion.

Desai & Dewanji is at 3rd spot with 19 deals, followed by Khaitan & Co. at 4th with 18, Trilegal at 5th with 13, Luthra & Luthra and J Sagar Associates at 6th and 7th with 11 deals each, DSK Legal at 8th with 9 deals and PH Bathiya & Associates at 9th with 7 deals.
