More than 28,000 matters before the Delhi High Court and the national capital’s district courts were referred for mediation during a three-month drive conducted by the High Court.

Of these, a total of 4,316 matters were settled and 13,938 matters are still pending for settlement.

“These figures show that the mediation drive was a huge success,” the High Court said.

The drive was conducted from July 1, 2025 to September 30, 2025. It was part of a nationwide initiative conceptualised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) under the guidance of the Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of NALSA.

In Delhi, the campaign was guided by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, with support from Justice Navin Chawla and Justice C Hari Shankar.

According to a communication issued by the High Court, wide publicity was given to the drive through advertisements, posters, banners and display of public notices on the websites of the Delhi High Court, district courts and of Samadhan (Delhi High Court Mediation Centre).

“To make sure that the normal functioning of the High Court does not suffer, Registrars and Joint Registrars of the Delhi High Court were assigned the task of identifying the suitable cases for mediation and conduct referral proceedings and for effective coordination and smooth management of the drive, Nodal officer was appointed,” the Court said in a press release.

It added,

“The Mediation Centres witnessed enthusiastic participation of parties, advocates, and trained mediators, working in a collaborative spirit to ensure effective resolution of civil, family, and commercial disputes. Innovative measures such as online mediation sessions, focused settlement drives, and personalized case follow-ups were instrumental in achieving this outcome.  With large number of cases being listed daily before Mediation Centres, effective strategies were implemented to manage the huge inflow of cases and to facilitate litigants throughout the drive.”
