Police stations can't be designated for audio-visual examination of witness: Centre clarifies BNSS

Sections 266, 268 and 308 of the BNSS, which replaced the CrPC, provides for the examination of a witness by audio-video electronic means at designated places to be notified by the State government.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has clarified that police stations cannot be designated as a place for the examination of witnesses through audio-video electronic means under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS).
