Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas Partner Shuva Mandal will be leaving the firm to join Tata Group as Group General Counsel.

Shuva will succeed Bharat Vasani, who has been with the Tata Group for more than 17 years. The news was first broken by Legally India.

According to sources, this is a part of Bharat Vasani’s succession plan with Vasani continuing as the Legal Advisor to the Group Chairman Mr. Chandrasekhar.

Shuva moved to Shardul Amarchand in 2015 from AZB & Partners as National Head of M&A practice.

A graduate of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Shuva joined the profession in 2000, after an internship in the Chambers of Zia Mody in 1999. In 2009, Shuva was made an equity partner at AZB.

A couple of years ago, he was named in Economic Times’ 40 Hottest Leaders under 40. Read his interview here.

We have reached out to Pallavi Shroff and Bharat Vasani for comment.

Update [21:28]: In a press release, the firm’s Executive Chairman Shardul Shroff was quoted as saying,

“While Shuva’s resignation leaves us deeply saddened, we are also pleased to know that he will be joining the very highly regarded TATA team. Managing Partner Pallavi Shroff said,

“We wish to offer our very sincere thanks to Shuva for all of his hard-work in helping us establish a national Corporate practice at SAM & Co. We look forward to continuing our relationship and working together with Shuva.”

Commenting on the move, Managing Partner Akshay Chudasama said,
