Skit on Ram Temple donation theft: Pappu Yadav moves Delhi HC for enhanced security after attack at residence

Pappu Yadav, an Independent Member of Parliament (MP) from Bihar's Purnia, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking enhancement of security across India.

The matter will be heard on August 11 by Justice Manoj Jain.

Yadav has argued that he has been receiving death threats since he performed a skit outside parliament over irregularities in the Ram Mandir donations. Notably, Yadav was attacked at his residence in Delhi on August 2, 2026, when a man allegedly threw a slipper at him during a press conference. The assailant was allegedly carrying a knife.

In his plea, Yadav has sought a fresh and comprehensive threat assessment and interim security measures across India. He currently has ‘Y+’ security cover in Bihar.

Yadav said that his threat perception escalated after he participated in the Ram Temple donation theft skit. The plea states that death threats were issued against him on August 1, including a public reward of ₹51 lakh for his beheading. It also alleges that a mob gathered outside the residence of his wife, who is also a sitting MP, and threatened to kill him.

According to the petition, Yadav submitted a complaint to the Delhi Police on August 2 along with electronic evidence of the threats. Later that day, while addressing a press conference at his Delhi residence, a shoe was thrown at him and an attempt was made to attack him with a knife.

"That despite advance written notice of a specific and credible threat, followed by an actual attempt on the Petitioner’s life, the Ministry of Home Affairs has neither conducted a fresh threat assessment nor taken any decision on the Petitioner’s pending representation for Central/pan-India security cover. This continued inaction, in the face of a materialized threat, amounts to a breach of the Respondents’ constitutional obligation under Article 21," the plea states.

The petition has been filed through Advocates Kanishk Arora, Shakshi Goyal and Ishtpreet Singh.
