The Supreme Court of India on Friday asked the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court to not assign any judicial work to Justice Yashwant Varma. .Justice Varma's transfer to the Allahabad High Court Court was notified today by the Central government after the Supreme Court Collegium recommendation on March 24. In a press release issued today, the Supreme Court said, "The Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court for the time being has been asked not to assign any judicial work to Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma, when he assumes charge as a Judge of the Allahabad High Court.".Interestingly, the decision was taken by the Collegium after holding two meetings - one on March 20 and another on March 24..A fire at Justice Varma's house on the evening of March 14 had inadvertently led to the recovery of unaccounted cash by the fire fighters, as per news reports.A video of the recovery of burnt cash was also apparently shared by the Delhi Police Commissioner with the Chief Justice of the High Court.Justice Varma and his wife were not in Delhi and were travelling in Madhya Pradesh on the said day. Only his daughter and aged mother were at home when the fire broke out..The Chief Justice of India (CJI) on March 21 initiated an in-house probe into the allegations and set up a three-member committee to conduct the probe.Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also published a report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice on the incident along with Justice Varma's response.Justice Varma was born in 1969. He took his LLB degree from Madhya Pradesh's Rewa University and enrolled as an advocate in 1992. As a lawyer, he served special counsel for Allahabad High Court and as chief standing counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh.He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2013 and was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court in October 2014.He was made a permanent judge in February 2017.
