

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Delhi High Court Justice V Kameswar Rao as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
Justice Sudhir Singh is presently the acting Chief Justice for Patna High Court.
The recommendation was made at a Collegium meeting held on August 6.
Justice Rao did his LLB from Delhi University in 1990. He enrolled as an advocate in March 1991. He practiced before the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, Central Administrative Tribunal (Principal Bench), New Delhi. Justice Rao has also appeared in other High Courts like at Madras High Court and Port Blair (Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court).
He was elevated as additional judge of Delhi High Court in April 2013 and was made permanent on March 2015. He was transferred to Karnataka High Court in 2024. At Karnataka, he also served as acting Chief Justice in May 2025. He was repatriated to Delhi High Court on July 21, 2025.
Patna High Court is presently functioning with 43 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 53 judges.
