Supreme Court Collegium recommends Justice RV Ghuge as Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court

Justice Ravindra V Ghuge from Bombay High Court has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

The recommendation was made by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on August 6.

Justice Ghuge is presently serving as the acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

Justice Ghuge completed his law education from MP Law college in Aurangabad in 1990.

He joined the Bar in 1990 and started practice before the Bombay High Court and Industrial / Labour Courts, initially representing workers and unions in about 2,000 cases. He conducted cases for about 250 industries including many multi-national corporations and private large scale industries.

He was elevated as the judge of the High Court in 2013.

He was appointed as acting Chief Justice of the High Court after then Chief Justice Justice Shree Chandrashekhar was elevated to Supreme Court in June this year.

Calcutta is presently functioning with 41 judges while its sanctioned strength is 72.
