The Supreme Court on Thursday launched its online portal through which citizens can file applications under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act) in relation to the apex court..The portal can be accessed here. On Tuesday this week, the Supreme Court had activated a test version of the online portal.Before beginning to hear matters at 10:30 AM today, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud announced that the online RTI portal would be active shortly."RTI Portal of Supreme Court is all ready and will be operating within 15 minutes...In case there are teething problems, we will look at it and rectify it," he clarified..The portal can be used only by Indian citizens to file RTI applications, first appeals and to make payment for fees, copying charges, etc.The applicant can pay the prescribed fee through internet banking, credit/debit card of Master/Visa or UPI.The fee per RTI application is ₹10.Until the launch of the portal, RTI applications in relation to the Supreme Court had to be filed physically.Various public interest litigation (PILs) had been filed before the Supreme Court seeking an online RTI portal for the Court..During the hearing of one such plea last week, a Bench of CJI Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli had said that the portal would be rolled out soon.
