The Supreme Court will on Friday deliver its verdict in Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal's petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi Excise Policy case [Arvind Kejriwal v. Directorate of Enforcement]..A Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta will pronounce its decision tomorrow. This bench had earlier granted interim bail to Kejriwal up until June 1 to enable him to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal had returned to jail after his bail period got over..Supreme Court questions ED on statement of witness who did not implicate Arvind Kejriwal earlier.Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a case alleging that a criminal conspiracy was hatched by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Kejriwal, Sisodia and others to create loopholes in the Delhi Excise Policy of 2021-22 to favour some liquor sellers for undue favours. The Delhi High Court had earlier rejected Kejriwal's plea against his arrest. The Supreme Court reserved its verdict in the appeal against the same, on May 17.The trial court had on June 20 granted bail to Kejriwal and ordered his release subject to bail bond of ₹1 lakh.Special Judge Niyay Bindu of the Rouse Avenue Court said that ED failed to give any direct evidence linking Kejriwal to the proceeds of the crime and has also failed to show that another accused, Vijay Nair, was acting on Kejriwal's behalf. The special judge had also said that the ED was acting with bias against Kejriwal. This order was stayed by the Delhi High Court on June 25. Kejriwal initially filed an appeal before the Supreme Court but later chose to withdraw it in order to file a fresh appeal.
