Supreme Court of India

1. Sanjiv Rajendra Bhatt v. Union of India & Ors.

[Item 1 in court 1- Writ Petition (Crl.) 135/2011]

Bench: Chief Justice HL Dattu, Arun Mishra J.

The application filed by IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt seeking impleadment of Amit Shah and S Gurumurthy in the 2011 case before the Supreme Court. In 2011, Bhatt had approached the Supreme Court alleging that the Gujarat government was trying to scuttle the investigation and blunt his efforts.

In his present application, Bhatt has also made allegations against current Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for his alleged role in trying to scuttle the investigation and has sought an SIT probe.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising, who is representing Bhatt, has completed her arguments. Advocate Prashant Bhushan is now advancing his submissions.

Today in court: The court reserved its judgment in this case.

2. Center for PIL & Ors. v. Union of India & Ors.

[Item 99 in court 1 – C.A. NO. 10660/2010]

Bench: Chief Justice HL Dattu, Arun Mishra J.

The case pertaining to 2G scam. The court is likely to hear Subramanian Swamy’s plea for chargesheeting P Chidambaram for his role in granting FIPB approval to the Aircel-Maxis deal.

Today in court: This case was not taken up today.

3. Parivartan Kendra & Anr v. Union of India & Ors.

[Item 1 in court 9 – Writ Petition (Civil) 867/2013]

Bench: MY Eqbal J., C Nagappan J.

This is the case pertaining to acid attacks. Five States States – Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka had failed to file their replies in the case. During the last hearing, the Court had issue show cause notice to those five on why contempt action should not be initiated against them.

Today in court: The Chief Secretaries of the five States tendered their unconditional apology and filed responses in the matter. The case will now be taken up for final hearing in the third week of November.

Delhi High Court

1. Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Vs Union of India

[Item 39, Court 1- WP (C) 5888/2014]

Bench: Chief Justice G Rohini, Jayant Nath J.

A petition filed by the Delhi Govt challenging the May 21 MHA notification that deprived the ACB from taking cognizance of offences against officers of the Central Government.

On the last date of hearing, the Bench adjourned the matter to be heard on September 24 when similar matters are to be heard.

Today in Court: The Bench agreed to hear this matter as also other matters, together and on a daily basis, from tomorrow. It also directed for this matter to be tagged as the lead matter in the bunch of petitions filed by the Centre & AAP Government.

2. Prashant Bhushan Vs Union of India & Anr.

[Item 40, Court 1- WP (C) 1524/2015]

Bench- Chief Justice G Rohini, Jayant Nath J.

Prashant Bhushan’s petition challenging the denial of passport of full validity to him.

Today in Court: The Bench reserved its order.

3. Rajendra Prashad Vs Govt of NCT of Delhi, MA Usmani Vs Union of India & Ors.

[Item 17, Court 1- WP (C) 7887/2015]

Bench: Chief Justice G Rohini, Jayant Nath J.

Both petitions pose a challenge to the Delhi Govt’s decision to set up an Inquiry Commission for probing into the CNG fitness scam.

While Prashad is a former employee of the Transport Department, Usmani is a DANICS cadre officer who was arrested in connection with the scam in 2012. On the last hearing, Senior Counsel Dayan Krishnan appearing for the Delhi Govt had informed the Court that the said issue was squarely a State subject, which effectively required no approval from the LG’s office.

The Bench had issued notice and sought a response from the Delhi Government before next date of hearing on September 23.

Today in Court: Senior Counsel Rajeev Dhavan appeared for the Delhi Government. The Bench has decided to give a combined hearing to all the GNCT Vs. Union of India matters pending before it.

4. Naresh Kumar Vs Govt of NCT of Delhi & Ors.

[Item 15, Court 1- WP (C) 7934/2015]

Bench: Chief Justice G Rohini, Jayant Nath J.

A petition filed by Congress leader Naresh Kumar against the Delhi Govt’s notification of August 4 that hiked circle rates of agricultural land in the Capital, by three times.

On the last hearing, the Court had sought a response from the AAP Govt over the issue.
