Senior Advocates L Nageshwara Rao, KV Viswanathan and SK Bagaria are being appointed as new Additional Solicitor Generals (ASG) for the Supreme Court.
According to highly placed sources, the consent of the three has been obtained and all that remains to complete the process is the publication of an official notification.
Senior Advocate L Nageshwara Rao, who began his practice in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, shifted to the Supreme Court in 1995. He was designated Senior Advocate in November, 2000. Rao had earlier served as ASG from 2003 to 2004. He has appeared in many landmark cases including the recent case pertaining to NEET.
Senior Advocate KV Viswanathan began his practice in Coimbatore in 1988 before shifting to Delhi. He was designated Senior Counsel in 2009. He served as Amicus Curiae in the Salem Advocates Bar Association case and has appeared in various high profile cases. He was also a recipient of the National Law Day Award in 2009.
Senior Advocate SK Bagaria obtained his law degree from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He enrolled as an advocate in 1974 and was designated Senior Advocate in 2003. He practised in Kolkata before shifting to Delhi in 2003.
The formal notification confirming the appointment is expected soon.
From the information provided by the Ministry of Law, it is understood that the post of ASG for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh High Courts continues to be vacant. Further, the posts of Assistant Solicitor General for Imphal, Sikkim and Madras are also lying vacant.
